Our Story

 

Some love stories are written in the stars, while others take a scenic detour before arriving at their perfect ending. Ours is the latter, and Coal Valley Inn is the beautiful next chapter in that journey.

Picture this: It’s 1989. Laidley Field in Charleston, WV. The high jump pit at the state track meet (romantic, I know). A young athlete from Ravenswood and another from Moundsville cross paths. They become fast friends, exchanging letters in a time before emails and text messages. Life, college, and distance lead them down different roads, but the connection (and the "what if") remains.

Fast-forward 25+ years. Those same two friends find each other again, and this time, there is no letting go. Their paths, once parallel but distant, now merge in a way that neither could have imagined. It’s an epic love story that we are fortunate enough to live every day.

Our story isn’t just about rekindled romance—it’s about recognizing something special, appreciating it, and putting in the effort to nurture it every day. Despite 250 miles, two careers, and five children between us, and nearly 10 years of living long distance, we built a life together through love, sacrifice, and endless adventure. Now, finally together in the same zip code, we are embarking on a new journey—taking over the management and eventual ownership of the former Bonnie Dwaine Bed & Breakfast, now to be known as the Coal Valley Inn.

This isn’t just a business venture—it’s a labor of love, a reflection of our journey, and a place where stories just like ours can be written every day. We can’t wait to welcome you and make you part of our next chapter.
